The best wedding planning apps in 2026
Every app on this page is free to start, and every one of them is missing something. The Knot has the biggest vendor marketplace in the United States and no seating chart. Joy has the best digital invitations and no budget tool. Zola has the most complete registry and cannot render a name with an accent on it.
This page sets out what each one actually does, checked against the products' own public pages on 3 September 2026, so you can pick on the two or three features you will really use rather than on the length of the feature list.

What is the best wedding planning app?
There is no single best wedding planning app, because the five biggest ones each leave out something a wedding needs. For couples in the United States, The Knot and Zola are the strongest choices: both are free, both carry a large vendor marketplace and a gift registry, and Zola adds a seating chart in its iPhone app. For couples who want to send digital invitations and collect replies online, Joy is the most complete free option, though it has no seating chart, no budget tracker and no checklist. WeddingWire is the only one of the American platforms with a free drag-and-drop seating chart on the web.
For couples planning outside the United States and the United Kingdom, the picture changes: The Knot, Zola and WeddingWire have no edition for Central or Eastern Europe, and Zola's wedding websites cannot display special characters at all. Stellanza — the app this comparison is published by — is built for exactly that case: guest list, digital invitations, online RSVPs, a drag-and-drop seating chart and budget tracking in twelve languages, free for up to 50 guests, with no app to install. It has no vendor marketplace and no gift registry, so it is the wrong choice for a couple who wants those.

The apps, one by one
How we compared them
Every status in the table above was read from the product's own public pages — its features page, its pricing page or its help centre — on 3 September 2026, and every page we read is linked at the foot of this article. Where a product neither advertises a capability nor denies having it, the table says "not documented" rather than "no": we are not willing to make a factual claim about a competitor that we cannot support, particularly when the convenient answer would flatter us.
We publish Stellanza, which is a conflict of interest and the reason the criteria were fixed before the table was filled in. The sixteen rows are the things a wedding actually requires, not the things we happen to be good at — which is why Stellanza scores nothing on vendor directories, gift registries and shared partner logins, all of which several competitors do better.
The feature nobody talks about: does it work where you live
The four best-known wedding apps are American or British, and the further you plan from those two markets the more that shows. Zola ships only within the United States and its cash-gift payouts need an American bank account. The Knot's parent company runs separate brands for the UK, Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Mexico, Brazil, Canada and India, and none of them covers Romania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Serbia, North Macedonia or Albania. Bridebook lists venues in many countries but says plainly that currency conversion is not currently available.
The sharpest example is Zola's own help centre, which states that its wedding websites cannot support special characters. For a couple called Ștefan and Alexandra, or Đorđe and Miloš, that is not a small limitation — it is the invitation spelling their guests' names wrong.
If you are planning a wedding outside the US and UK, check three things before you commit: the interface language, the currency, and whether the wedding website can spell your guests' names.
Which one should you pick
Rather than a ranking, the honest answer is a set of if-thens:
- You are in the US and still booking vendors: The Knot, for the marketplace and the reviews.
- You are in the US and the registry matters most: Zola.
- You want a free seating chart in a browser and nothing else: WeddingWire.
- You want to send beautiful digital invitations and track replies: Joy.
- You are in the UK and hunting for a venue: Bridebook.
- You are planning in Europe, need your own language and currency, and the seating plan is what is keeping you up: Stellanza.
What none of them do
No app on this list will negotiate with your venue, and none of them replaces the conversation about who is paying for what. Two more gaps are worth naming because every one of these products is quiet about them: none of them handles the money guests bring in an envelope, which is how a large share of weddings in Central and Eastern Europe are actually funded, and none of them prints a per-guest place card as part of the seating export.
It is also worth saying that a spreadsheet is not a stupid choice. If your wedding is forty people in one room, a shared sheet and a group chat will do the job, and every app here is overhead you do not need.
